Artist Statement:
My work continues to
examine the subtle changes and the consequent visual effects
of a plane as it moves non-definitively through space. I do
this by continuing my development of the technique of
anticlastic raising. It has proven to be the ideal method
for generating elemental structures that illustrate and help
to explain more complex movements inherent in organic life.
My purpose is to follow the natural movement of a plane as
it transforms into three-dimensional space by systematically
stretching the edges and compressing the center of a metal
sheet. The resulting anticlastic forms express a harmonious
balance between tension and flexibility, complexity and
simplicity, strength and economy. Because such
characteristics are particularly suitable to jewelry, I
adapt these shapes to accentuate the natural lines and
movement of the human form. |
